Memory
Memory is part of my Fragments of What Remains series — a collection of contemporary metal artworks exploring memory, nostalgia and the traces we carry through life.
Made from layered and formed copper, this sculptural piece is etched, embossed, stitched, scorched and weathered by hand, bringing together worn surfaces, shifting patinas and quiet marks that speak of time, change and remembrance.
For me, Memory reflects on the moments, relationships and places that stay with us — altered by time, softened at the edges, yet still quietly present.
Its curved, vessel-like form suggests holding and containment, while stitched joins and expressive surfaces hint at stories gathered, carried and reshaped over time. Oxidised blues and softened metallic tones echo weathered landscapes, old cloth and objects shaped by use.
Inspired by family history, memory, textiles and the landscapes that shape us, Memory considers what we keep, what fades and what continues to leave its mark.
A one-off original artwork, handmade in Cornwall by metalsmith Belinda Latimer.
