About Belinda Latimer

I’m Belinda — a metalsmith and artist with one foot in Stoke-on-Trent and the other firmly in Cornwall.

I grew up surrounded by colour, clay and the grit of industry — parents who worked in pottery and coal, and a world where creativity and making things by hand were simply part of everyday life. That early mix of texture, resilience and honest materials has stayed with me ever since.

I originally trained in silversmithing and metalwork, but life carried me in other creative directions for many years. Returning to metal almost 30 years later felt like coming home — reconnecting with something instinctive, familiar and quietly powerful.

When I moved to Cornwall in 2019, something shifted. The light here opened everything up. My work became more expressive and layered — shaped by the colours, energy and ever-changing moods of the sea and landscape around me.

Today, I cut, hammer, etch and layer copper, brass and nickel silver into bold Seafolk jewellery and contemporary metal artworks. My work explores memory, place and connection, drawing on both the industrial landscape of my childhood and the shifting coastline I now call home. A background in textiles still quietly informs the work through layering, texture and traces of repair.

Each piece is shaped slowly by hand in my Cornish studio — textured, layered and full of movement, character and story.

Whether I’m creating Seafolk jewellery or pieces from my Fragments of What Remains series, the work is influenced by memory, material and a fascination with what time leaves behind.

If one of my pieces finds its way to you, I hope it brings joy, character and connection — something expressive, a little unexpected, and shaped by the places that make me who I am.
