This mixed-media piece brings together several threads of my practice. A hand-embroidered mermaid sits quietly on a batik fabric background, its soft sea-washed colours echoing the coastline here in Cornwall.
Tiny copper sea creatures — cut, shaped and stitched into place — add a small shimmer and a layer of texture, catching the light as you move past.
The whole piece is set within a simple metal frame, giving it a clean edge while keeping the focus on the stitched details and batik cloth.
It’s a gentle, tactile artwork with hints of story — a small moment of sea dreaming, made slowly and honestly by hand in my St Austell studio.
